Using the GPS Simulator

This article explains use of the GPS simulator incorporated in the program.

GPS SIMULATOR

You want to see how the program works or demonstrate its features, but you do not have a GPS handy or you are in a location that does not enable ready access to satellite signals.  Not to worry.  The Memory-Map program has a built-in simulator which allows you to generate a moving position on your map.

SETTING UP

Setting up the simulator is quite easy.  Within the program, select GPS > GPS SETUP to open the window below:

Set the MANUFACTURER to Simulator.  This will open a new window:

Enter your starting position in the POSITION field and set your speed in the SPEED field.  You can adjust your course using the fine and coarse arrows.  You will notice the simulator was originally designed to represent a boat (as seen by the VESSEL label and the speed in knots).  The simulator also allows the user to enter a "SET" which represents tide/current on a boat (or wind for aircraft).

STOPPING THE SIMULATOR

Closing the simulator window will stop the simulator for this session, but the simulator will open again when you restart the program.  To turn off the simulator, go to GPS > GPS SETUP and set the MANUFACTURER to NONE.
