Frequently Asked Questions :: iOS5 upgrade

iOS5 upgrade

Before you upgrade your iPhone or iPad to the new iOS5, realize that this may reinstall your apps on the device.  (We have not found a full explanation for why it does this on some systems.)  As a result, your existing maps may be cleared from the system.  If you are going to upgrade, please make a copy of your maps prior to upgrading the operating system.

NOTE:  Maps downloaded from the Digital Map Shop (DMS) will not be accessible for backup in most cases and will have to be reloaded from the server.

You will also want to makes copies of any overlays (Marks, Routes, Tracks) you want to keep.  To do this, go to the overlays (route or mark folder on the flip screen, and then select the tab you want), select MENU > SAVE/EMAIL MARKS, enter a name for the file, and press DONE.

Once you have upgraded, you can restore your licenses by signing into your account on the license management screen (SETTINGS > MAP LICENSES > SIGN IN).  This WILL NOT restore your maps.  You will have to restore the maps either by using the iTunes method (described here) or reloading from the Digital Map Shop.
