Downloading and installing Packaged Maps from zip files

This article explains the procedure for downloading and installing maps from zipped files.

Note:
This is no longer the prescribed method for installing maps. As such the most recent maps are no longer being made available from the links below. This article is maintained solely for the purpose of recovering older map sets.

THIS PROCESS NEEDS TO BE CARRIED OUT USING A PC OR MAC,
NOT AN iPad or ANDROID.
You can copy the files to the iPad or Android after you’ve unzipped the package.

Once the downloading has completed, right click on the zip file and select Extract All. Again, take note of the destination. This is the folder with all the maps files in it.

1. Select and download the file from the web page. Make sure you know where the file is being downloaded and saved so you can easily find it or select another destination such as the desktop.

7. Select the Memory-Map app and you will see a list of documents on the iPhone / iPad related to the app.

8. Open the extracted map folder then drag and drop the map files into the file list. Do not copy the folder, only the map files from within the folders. If you key Ctrl + A together, you can select and copy all the map files in a given folder. (see here for info on making file extensions visible)

9. You should see the progress of the files being copied to the device at the top of the iTunes frame.

10. You may need to restart the app for the maps to show in the map list. Double press the Home key, touch and hold the icons (indicating apps in suspension) and close the Memory-Map app. Restart the app, if you still do not see the maps listed, select MAP TYPES and SHOW ALL to ensure all maps are being listed.

Software - The Android app is available from Google Play Store, just search for Memory-Map and install it.

How to copy maps to the Android app

1. Copy the maps c/w folders, to the device storage into the Memory-Map folder which is in the Downloads folder (/Download/Memory-Map/). See here for info using a secondry SD card.

2. Launch the app and select Menu > Maps > Maps on device. You should see all the maps you just copied over in the map list.

3. When you first open a map from the package, you will be prompted to sign in and activate it on that device. If you do not yet have a user account, create one now from within the app. If you do not have any activation rights for this map, you will be offered a Demo period and may choose to buy the map at any time.

See here for info on Bulk downloading maps

5 - Activating and purchasing the maps

The first time you open and view one of the encrypted maps you will be prompted to activate it. If you haven’t already created a user account, do so now either from within the app or here.

If you do not already have activation rights in your account you will be promted to buy or get Demo period. This is done from within the PC or Android app but not the iPhone/iPad.

If using an iPhone/iPad please note: You can also tryout and buy some maps in-app but be warned, buying in-app from Apple, is often more expensive and less flexible than buying out-app. To buy out-app you need to visit the Memory-Map login and create a user account, sign the app into the same account, then back to the web site, into your account and hit the buy button (assuming you are trialling the map you want to buy).

When you copy a map to the Apple device as described above, it is automatically put on Demo. Then when you have the app signed into your account you can visit the licence management page to buy it.
